Lime Addition
Efficient Lime Precipitation in Mining Operations
Acid mine drainage (AMD) has the potential to severely degrade ground or surface waters. Once initiated, it can continue indefinitely and require long term treatment. Lime precipitation is the most common and proven treatment method for acid mine drainage.
Most conventional lime treatment systems do not efficiently utilize all of the added lime. Lime is inherently insoluble and is delivered in either slurry or powder form. As it is added, the precipitated metals coat the lime particles and trap unutilized lime. The result: more lime, more energy, more residence time and more money is spent unnecessarily.
The RCTS™ Technology
The RCTS™ system maximizes lime utilization while aerating the water and oxidizing reduced metals. There is no need for the reaction vessels, compressors, diffusers and agitators found in conventional systems. Instead, untreated AMD and lime slurry are passed through the RCTS’s well-balanced, perforated, rotating containment cell. The resulting turbulence efficiently mixes and dissolves lime better than competing technologies. The RCTS™ has consistently and significantly outperformed conventional systems in mine site tests.
The Advantage of RCTS™ for Lime Efficiency
The RCTS is a less complicated, superior system for lime delivery, offering:
- Less lime used – 36% to 51% represented in test sites
- Less energy consumption
- Less residence time
- Better mixing
- No plugging or short circuiting
- Less maintenance, labor and operational needs
- In short, LESS COST AND BETTER RESULTS.
