RCTS - Rotating Cylinder Treatment System
Ionic Water Technologies’ Rotating Cylinder Treatment System™ (”RCTS“) efficiently, effectively treats contaminated mine water.
The RCTS™ first successfully treated mine water containing ferrous iron concentrations of 5,000 to 7,000 mg/L in Nevada, USA in 2003. Today’s RCTS™ is repeatedly field proven to treat highly contaminated mine waters under demanding industrial conditions - freezing temperatures, remote locations, acidic waters, high sulfate and metal loading and continuous automated operation.
The technology’s application of unique aeration and mixing concepts produce a better way to treat metal-laden mine water, often using a single stage, flow-through system that precipitates metals at a lower pH while using less, energy and costing less money than conventional treatment systems.
Efficient Aeration
RCTS™ aggressively exposes contaminated water to the atmosphere in a thin film, replicating natural aeration and eliminating the need for costly compressors and blowers. The system consumes less energy and resources, and it is relatively unaffected by the problems that plague its competitors: sediment, scaling, and related maintenance issues. These cost savings measures make RCTS™ the best choice for mine water treatment with a high oxygen demand.
Superior Lime Delivery
Lime is commonly used to increase the pH of mine wastewater in order to precipitate dissolved metals as particulates. IWT’s system of timers and pumps assures better lime delivery with less labor, while traditional lime precipitation often requires constant monitoring,
The RCTS™ system’s aggressive mixing and sheer force results in near 100% lime utilization; traditional lime treatment systems are considerably less efficient in utilization. The immediate benefits of this utilization: less lime consumed and less sludge produced.

The Advantages of the Rotating Cylinder Treatment System
- 40% lime efficiency improvement demonstrated over conventional system
- 40% sludge generation reduction demonstrated over conventional system
- Modular design tailored to a specific site
- Easily mobilized for multi-site applications
- Eliminates short circuiting during intense agitation
- Small footprint
- Minimal operations and maintenance
